The final examination aims to assess the expected learning according to the Dublin Descriptors (2004).

In accordance with the Bologna Process and the subsequent documents for the harmonisation of European educational pathways, the following areas are assessed in the final examination:

  1. Knowledge and understanding
  2. Applying knowledge and understanding
  3. Making judgements
  4. Communication skills
  5. Learning skills

The adoption of the Dublin Descriptors is, in fact, one of the conditions that make the transfer of learning credits within the European Area possible.

In recent years, the descriptors have been supplemented by the "Tuning Matrix", an operational tool born out of the project for innovation and quality in teaching launched with the aim of translating the strategic objectives of the Bologna Process into concrete actions for reshaping university courses of study. The matrix is the intersection of 'educational objectives', 'teaching activities' and 'competences'.

The expected learning outcomes define what a student must know, know how to use and be able to demonstrate at the end of the course of study; they are established by the Course of Study in coherence with the competences required by the demand for training and are articulated in a progression that enables the student to successfully achieve the requirements set by the demand for external training.

The study plan is composed of teaching modules organised in such a way as to achieve knowledge and skill-building objectives. Each module assumes a certain amount of previously acquired knowledge or previously obtained qualifications.

For each learning area, which groups together teaching modules according to their common objectives, the knowledge and skills which that area generally aims to achieve are described.

The final qualification is awarded to students who are capable of:

  • apply their knowledge by demonstrating a professional approach and appropriate skills to solve problems in their field of study;
  • making decisions to effectively solve complex problems/situations in one's field of study;
  • collect and interpret data to make independent professional judgements, including on social, scientific or ethical issues;
  • enable effective communication on clinical, social, scientific or ethical issues relevant to their profile;
  • learning independently.

The final examination consists of:

  1. an application-oriented test in which the candidate must demonstrate that he has acquired skills specific to the job profile;
  2. the drafting of a written paper and its dissertation.
