The Midwifery Degree Course at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia offers tutoring and a free individual/group counselling service to students enrolled and attending the course who are experiencing difficulties in their studies and/or during their internship, which may compromise their performance and adaptation to university life.

TUTORING

Orientation for new students

  • participation in initiatives promoted by UNIMORE Orienta
  • organisation of online meetings in May-June-July with prospective students

  • management of the degree programme's Instagram page with chat interactions

Ongoing guidance

  • Group meetings dedicated to first-year students to facilitate their integration into university life
  • Individual meetings in person with students enrolled in all years of the course, held every six months and/or as needed
  • Group meetings to facilitate communication of an informational and organisational nature regarding university and degree programme activities
  • Individual and/or group meetings between lecturers and students experiencing difficulties in taking exams
  • Individual and/or group meetings with students in subsequent years 
  • Support for students throughout the preparation of their final thesis, with scheduled and structured meetings (see the DEGREE section)

Outgoing orientation

  • meetings with representatives of professional associations
  • meetings with recent graduates and new professionals
  • meetings with professionals practising freelance work

Professional tutoring

  • Group meetings with the Internship Guides at each internship location (training objectives to be achieved, location schedules, organisation, assistance activities carried out, etc.) 
  • Individual face-to-face meetings between students/Tutors/AFP Director and Internship Guide with students enrolled in all years (frequency: as needed)

Disability and Specific Learning Disabilities

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders can take advantage of the many services provided by the Disability and Specific Learning Disorders Service, established pursuant to Law 17/99 and Law 170/2010. The University offers meetings to analyse students' needs; a team of professionals provides information and advice on the services available to them, on requests for assistance during entrance exams, on financial aid, and on accessibility to University facilities.

COUNSELLING

The identification of critical issues in the training programme by the President, AFP Director – Tutor (organisational/management member of the degree programme) is carried out through:

  • Direct reporting by the student
  • Direct reporting by the teacher
  • Direct reporting by the Internship Guide

- Support/recovery of critical issues with dedicated internship activity reprogramming

If the initial counselling steps require the intervention of professional PSYCHOLOGISTS, the student will be informed of the existence of dedicated University helpdesks and provided with the relevant contact details

The service helps students become more aware of their individual resources and develop a personal study method that can be adapted to different contexts, through the acquisition of specific techniques and strategies. The consultations aim to address the following macro-topics: time management and study organisation issues, the need to adapt learning methods to university study, and difficulties in communicating effectively in an exam context.The service is dedicated to students with emotional issues that affect their performance during their internship: difficulty settling in, uncertainty and dissatisfaction with their choices, relationship difficulties with different professionals.

The service is dedicated to students with low self-confidence and self-esteem, difficulty making decisions and dealing with problematic or stressful situations, problems managing emotions and anxiety, low motivation, etc., and all those conditions that require the intervention of a dedicated specialist (psychologist).
